Minecraft is a sandbox style block building game developed and published by Mojang for PC and Java platforms. The game was released on May 17, 2009 but the full version is yet to release in November this year. The game has gone through series of beta testing and is yet not fully released. Minecraft is also under development for Android and Apple gadgets. The game can be played in both single player as well as multiplayer modes. Presently the game is available in two modes: Classic and Beta. While the classic is the free to play version with limited functionality, beta is a paid version. The game is said to be inspired from the likes of Infiniminer, Dwarf Fortress and Dungeon Keeper. Minecraft free download is given below.
Minecraft classic variant is a free to download and play version of the game. It lets you build and destroy any or all parts of the world either alone or in multiplayer mode. This mode provides you with basic functionality only. In free version, players need not worry about getting struck by the environmental hazards or by computer controlled enemies. They get free and unlimited supply of blocks, however some kind of blocks are not available in the Minecraft free version. In fact, classic mode does not let players interact with the environment as it is in beta mode. And unlike beta, which gets updated continuously, Classic version has never got any update. It is now expected to be phased out soon and would be replaced by beta version when the full version is ready to release.
The game has been well received by critics and reviewers. As of April 18, 2011, the game has more than 6 million registered users and nearly two million purchases including both alpha and beta versions.
